Struggles in student life 

Dr Israr Ahmad, a well-known Pakistani scholar and was born on 26 April 1932 in Hisar, Punjab. He received his school and early education from local Institutes, while for higher studies he went to King Edwards Medical University. Right from the student life, Dr Israr had an active role in Islam movements and movement for independence. He participated in young student organizations like 'Muslim Students Federation' and 'Islami Jamiyat e Talba', later he was elected as the head of Islami Jamiyat e Talba. After the independence of Pakistan, he joined Jamaat e Islami in 1950. In 1954 he graduated from King Edwards Medical University and started practicing medicine but very soon he quit the field of medicine to study Islam. Afterward, he went to the University of Karachi to study Islamic Studies, from which he graduated in1965 with a master's degree.

In the following years, his interest in Islamic Philosophy was skyrocketed, and became an active member of Jamaat e Islami. At that time the head of Jamaat e Islami was Maulana  Abul Ala Maududi, he was the one who greatly Dr Israr but when the movement decided to participate in national politics in 1957, Dr Israr Ahmed and some of his other fellows strictly protested and opposed this decision. However, despite their opposition when the other leaders of jamaat e Islami still decided to join politics, Dr Israr Ahmed along with some other individuals resigned from Jamaat e Islami.


Vision:

The vision of Dr Israr Ahmed was synthesized from diverse sources, he was greatly influenced by great personalities like Abul Ala Maududi, Mahmud Hasan Deobandi,  Shabbir Ahmad Usmani, and Amin Ahsan Islahi. In addition, his way of thinking was greatly inspired by Shah Waliullah Dehlawi and Allama Muhammad Iqbal. Dr Israr was exposed to the revolutionary literature of Jamaat e Islami as well as he studied the Allama Iqbal poetry, therefore he strictly opposed capitalism and communism. Contrary, he was a die-hard supporter of the Islamic Politico-economic system. In other words, Dr Israr was of the view that the teachings and principles of the Quran and Sunnah must be implemented in social, political, civil, constitutional, and economic spheres of the country and our society. He also criticized democracy and the electoral system and as if the view that the head of an Islamic state can reject the major decisions made by the elected assembly.


Tanzeem e Islami

In 1975 Dr Israr Ahmad laid the foundation of Tanzeem e Islami, which aimed to be a disciple non-political Islamic organization. Tanzeem e Islami is often regarded as an off-branch of Jamaat e Islami. One of its goals was to create modern students who are well aware of western philosophy and at the same time, they have their roots deeply enriched to the teachings of the Quran. Tanzeem e Islami focused on the present-day society and configured ways to reform the society in a practical way in order to achieve its ultimate goal, the creation of an Islamic state similar to that of the Rashidun Caliphate. For this purpose, he too launched another movement in 1991 by the name Tahreek e Khilafat Pakistan. Dr Israr worked as the ameer of Tanzim e Islami from 1975 till 2002, in 2002 he appointed his son Hafiz Akif Saeed as the ameer  of Tanzeem e Islami due to his poor health condition, as he was a long term heart patient

Dr Israr Ahmed for the first time appear on PTV in 1978, afterward, he appeared in many television programs and his television lectures focused on Islamic values and teachings of the Quran. The television lectures of Dr. Israr Ahmed were not only limited to PTV as he also used to deliver lectures on Peace TV Urdu. The most famous Muslim scholar, Zakir Naik in an interview mentioned that Dr Israr Ahmed was one of those personalities, which inspired me the most. In addition, he regarded Dr. Israr as the best Urdu lecturer of modern time.

For Dr Israr Ahmed, it can be said that he was not a drop in an ocean but an ocean in a drop. He was called the living spirit of the Quran. Dr. Israr abandoned the medical field and lived his whole life preaching and practicing Quran, he gave his best to reawaken the Islamic traditions. The methods and ways may differ but just like Allam Iqbal, Dr. Israr too derived the message of seld reawakening.


Dr. Israr Ahmed Books

Dr. Israr Ahmed has penned 60 books on topics related to Islam and Pakistan, 29 of these books are translated into different languages of the world. For his contributions, he was awarded Sitara e Imtiaz by the President of Pakistan.
